"Gatwick to London by train is a nightmare trap for the unwary, there are at least ten different fares and if you get on the wrong train you face a fine - buy the wrong ticket and the relevant trains run every half an hour."

I suspect that may disappear later this year when all services from Gatwick to London end up, by the wonders of privatisation, run by the same company under a management contract.

Given that about £6.5bn is currently going into the Thameslink project which will vastly increase the number of trains and destinations from Gatwick into town and beyond, quite a lot, soon (certainly before any Gatwick R2 could be built).
