| Absolutely Marie -Louise. We have been fortunate in being one of the boroughs which hasn't suffered from bin blight. The recycling percentage has remained at 35 for 5 years and we have a rapidly increasing population. If we're making full use of the recycling collection there is very little residual waste. We have only a little bit in a carrier bag and don't even have a kitchen bin. The council have no idea how much effort individuals are making. They only have percentages taken from the trucks going over weigh-bridges. So we are all tarred with the same brush. Unless a workable alternative can be found our complaints are likely to continue to fall on deaf ears. If addressed sacks for scanning residual, making us all responsible for our own waste, is no good ( if not why not? ) are there any other suggestions? I'm sure that when you say "revolting Glebe Estate residents" you are referring to the wheeler bin revolt! What the bins look like is not the councils priority. Recycling has to be at least 50% by 2020 and the EU is now moving on to 70%. Destroying finite resources does not help either the planet or the economy. |
