I should have given you the reference to this page first: http://www.hounslow.gov.uk/recycling The information is very good. I think you may have confused home composting where it is recommended not to put certain things including meat into a compost bin in order to avoid rat interest - and the lockable food waste bin which the Council provides. There is information on where recycling goes accessible by link on the left hand side of the above page - this has been updated recently and is very informative. FYI LBH's food waste goes to be processed at an Anaerobic Digestion plant. Packaging is now supposed to be designed with its ultimate disposal in mind so you'll find less of it made from mixed materials and boxes are easier to flatten etc. We now also should be viewing what we throw away as resources and not just "rubbish". Read what is on packaging regarding its content and disposal and ask questions of manufacturers and retailers as the info changes as new processes come into use. In order to have less and better packaging we need it to continually be improving - that is of course when where and if it is actually necessary in the first place! |
