Thank you for posting this, Charlotte. I am a huge advocate for the particular quality of James and Claire, the two main vets at Pet Care because they display exemplary care, generosity, knowledge and expertise when treating my HAWS fosters and I wasn't sure people here would accept my intervening on their behalf. But it disturbs me that there is so much venting about costs on here on a thread that had their name on it. Yes, a lot of the local vets support HAWS and rescue organisations by offering discounts but I also know that James's generosity in waiving all fees associated with the treatment of my FIV+ Mum foster and finding out whether the kittens were positive is more than a lot of the other HAWs vets have or would have done. Indeed, last year one local vet's unprofessional hissy fit at me wanting a second opinion on something (turned out to be the right decision - they'd missed the diagnosis) ended up with the charity being charged £450 that they had been promised they wouldn't have to pay. I also know that vets do not earn huge sums of money in salary and nor do the nurses and other staff. And the emotional investment they put into their work should mean they make a lot more. I always ask the vet for a prescription for meds that are normal human meds and take them over the road to the chemist to fill - the vet cannot decide what to charge on prescription drugs, the drug companies do. This thread on what seems to be an apparent misunderstanding has turned into an unfair attack on Pet Care, their charges and therefore their reputation. |
