So basically what you're saying is: "we've always done it that way" which is a pretty poor excuse for continuing down that road. Leaving aside the fact that it will adversely affect Labour, given the extra powers promised to Scotland there is a huge groundswell of public demand in England for this question to be resolved.

Naked power play or not (and I think we can all agree that it is) but in this instance it also happens to align with a genuine upsurge in public opinion, and any attempt to baulk it, or kick the issue into the long grass will, I feel go down very badly with the electorate.
