You have hit the nail on the head yet again Vanessa. My family had to restrain me from smashing up the Radio as John Humphreys interviewed the South Yorkshire Commissioner for Grime & Slime. When the dust has settled a little we need to ask ourselves about the system for electing Police Commissioners. In Shaun Wright's case he became the Labour nominated candidate for the post having secured just 1,353 votes. Equally distressing is that only 14.5% of eligible South Yorkshire voters took part in his election with just over half voting for him. Is 7% or 8% a democratic mandate? |
