Exactly. Free Schools are open to all and are state funded. They may take proportionally fewer children from deprived backgrounds than local authority schools but I see no evidence that such children are actively discriminated against by Free Schools. The evidence in fact shows the reverse i.e. that significant numbers of children from such backgrounds do attend free schools when their parents choose to apply for places. What Vanessa and others need to show is that significant numbers of children from deprived backgrounds apply for admission to free schools and are then rejected - and that this rejection rate is higher than that for children from other backgrounds. |
