I have no chips at all, on shoulders or otherwise, it isn't a secret that I don't agree with much of what our current Lords and Masters are doing but that is my right. What I cannot stand is what has been described as 'social apartheid'. Why do people assume because a child comes from a more deprived area/family that that must equate to hooliganism and them being dim? As Ringo Starr once famously said - 'You can't buy brains for thick kids', so equally not everyone who goes to a public school is academically brilliant. The difference is that the old school tie legacy opens doors so it doesn't matter if you're not that bright. We have some really gifted children in state schools who will make it by virtue of their intelligence, excellent teaching and a well rounded approach to others. |
