| Interesting post ... just shows how TfL meet their targets. Hope for the Olympics infrastructure yet? Somehow I think not. Back to the original post by CCF: 1. TfL have approved the Borough’s application to widen the westbound approach to the roundabout to three lanes. This will slightly improve traffic throughput. Over the past year, TfL have undertaken a detailed traffic modeling exercise on the roundabout, culminating in changes to the signal timings and staging. The roundabout appears to be working more efficiently now, with less exit blocking in peak periods. They are now satisfied that the widening to three lanes will not oversaturate the roundabout, and there will be no further timing changes. The work will be done by the Council’s contractors as soon as TfL completes the necessary formalities. No sign of the alterations to the westbound approach to Chiswick Roundabout yet ... presumable TfL have not yet completed their deliberations three years after the idea was first mooted? 2. The conversion of the zebra crossing east of Power Road to a pelican crossing will commence in March and be completed in late April, with the installation of a mast arm to support a central set of overhead traffic signals. The Council will then arrange for the central median to be removed and the bus lane extended to Cambridge Road North as previously approved by the Area Committee. The conversion started yesterday. Is this still March 2006 or has the calendar moved forward? 3. Work on the Gunnersbury Station crossing signals will commence in February and be completed in March. This entails installation of a set of pedestrian signals between the BSI and Singapore Airlines Buildings, linked to the signals at the Chiswick Business Park junction. Ok this was done but later than scheduled I think 4. Installation of the pelican crossing east of Marlborough Road will be completed in mid April. (This has been operating temporarily as a zebra crossing while the Borough awaited progress from TfL.) Completed without the overhead gantry (just shows what a bit of lateral thinking combined with much public and CCF pressure on TfL about safety issues 5. TfL will install a new pelican crossing outside the BMW showroom, in the spring. This project was approved in principle by the Area Committee but still requires formal approval, on 5 April. Doesn't say which spring ... 6. TfL will relocate the traffic signals on the west side of the Acton Lane junction to allow completion of the minor improvements to the junction configuration as approved by the Area Committee. The small central refuge will be relocated slightly. This is likely to happen in March/April. In the meantime, the Council’s contractor has installed some of the safety barriers. Presumably that was not meant to be March/April 2006. Anyway it's small beer compared to some other things. 7. Following completion of the signals work, the Council will install any remaining line marking, signage, and coloured surfacing etc. Subject to remaining funds, further localised footway upgrades will be undertaken. Whether or not the other works are complete yellow cross hatched boxes at Thorney Hedge Road and Oxford Road North are urgently needed. I realise it makes economic sense to wait until all the line marking can be done at once ... but 2008 or later (on current performance) is not on. Some line marking needs to be brought forward. |
