If the green is fully shielded from the CHR junction then the possibility of jumping the lights in error is completely removed. “ Yes but (no but)… If they are too low then drivers coming through both junctions at a reasonable speed can’t see whether or not there is a green signal or a blank signal in adequate time to react accordingly. If you can’t see a green signal at say 25mph you should be braking to ensure the signals are not out of action, in case a pedestrian is about to cross. This uncertainty happens at several junctions I could name where the louvres are set too low, eg upon leaving the Chiswick Roundabout to go onto the A4 westbound, where drivers sometimes come to a sudden and unnecessary halt because they see the sun reflecting off the red signal and they cannot see the green behind the louvre. PS: was the Louvre in Paris at the right angle? :-) |
