| Janice, it started off as a post about cyclists and pavements but various contributors, myself included have added elements that weren't in the original post, which causes the subject being discussed to diverge. David for example mentioned cyclists texting while riding round Hammersmith Roundabout - not really anything to do necessarily with cycling on pavements. I picked David's post as my example, simply because while number plates for cycles also wasn't in the original post, it could be argued that number plates for cyclists might be something that could mitigate the problem of cyclists on pavements, whereas texting really has got very little to do with it. I sometimes like to point out what I see as the hypocrisy of some posters on here who advocate rigid enforcement of the rules on cyclists whilst condoning law breaking by other users of the highway. Again, not directly related to the original post. I'm sure if there was a post that criticised the number of cars on the road and the congestion these cars experienced, the role of cyclists would quickly enter the subsequent discussion. It is just how these things go on this forum, and I'm sure on many, many others. |
