I think you are probably right that, in certain circumstances, developers will be quite happy to forgo parking space for extra density. The flats being built along the Elizabeth line all seem to be being crammed in with what would have been parking not being turned over to communal use. With the Burlington Lane scheme however the 17 minute walk to the tube will be a major disincentive to someone who totally relies on public transport. Therefore the premium on parking space is likely to be higher. The chances are the last minute withdrawal of some of the parking spaces will make only a marginal difference to traffic in the area. There is still CPZ-free parking within walking distance of the development and most people generate more vehicle movements each day through the deliveries and services they receive than through the use of their own car. As Uber and Bolt will be the most popular transport option for non-drivers, the hope that this development won't worsen the continually deteriorating traffic on the A316 seems ill-founded. |
