I don't think many children would know the alphabet, but they should be able to read. When I started work at the airport none of us young people could add up very well. Remember it was £sd which was a nightmare. However the accountant spoke to the union, although we were mostly under 16. They talked to each other and decided that a adding machine should be made available. This solved the problem. Next problem was geography which was needed in great detail. The accountant obtained the Sunday Times Atlas and this solved the problem. Although attending school without time off it never did much for many teenagers. |
