So as so often, our local traffic management schemes that rely on signage promise safety feature that they don’t actually deliver. This probably makes them less safe for the intended users - pedestrians, cyclists, schoolchildren - than doing nothing, by offering a false sense of security. Temporary barriers closing the street for the required period, which might only need to be about 15 minutes rather than the hour indicated on the restriction signs, would be more effective. And if the school wants a successful closure, there should be no shortage of hi-vis volunteers to operate it! |
