| Alistair, thank you for your thoughtful and polite reply. I appreciate that the end deal, driven by the ERG and authorised by Johnson has caused considerable consternation amongst a good proportion of society. I believe the unforeseen events since our departure (covid, global inflation, Russia's war, plus some considerable French intransigence for example) has delayed the progress we should have made going it alone. This undoubtably has tested the patience of many. However,I will call out three absolute musts which were made ABUNDANTLY clear to the voting public in the lead up to the referendum: We would stop paying our subscriptions into the EU, somewhere between £161m and £250m weekly. We would end the free movement of people entering this country from the EU. we would be free to enter trade deals globally without EU constraints. Anything less than these stipulations would not have constituted a proper brexit. BRINO was not an option. |
