| The present two party (FPTP) system does negate hung parliaments but in many ways, is grossly unfair. If your vote favours other than the reds or blues you may as well save your visit to the local Town Hall to vote for one of the smaller but relevant parties. The exception to this was UKIP (who managed just one MP but whose party forced Cameron to promise a referendum on leaving the EU) who amazingly changed the direction of our economic and trade travel. The public displayed ambivalence towards AV in 2011 and, like you say, there is not a chance that the next, incoming Labour Government will wish to bring it in. Incidentally, the 2016 referendum was absolutely not an advisory vote, it was for real, it was democratic, and nobody's visit to the Town Hall was a wasted walk. |
