| Steady, Denis. Don’t put words into my mouth. I didn’t suggest that the referendum should have been overturned. But the kind of Brexit we put in place had not been defined by the referendum and I believe we could have opted for a more moderate version that would have been preferred by a wider section of the population. You presumably are aware that almost every survey taken since the Brexit vote shows that the majority of us have not been happy with the way it’s gone. If Johnson had had the courage and wisdom to resist the demands of the ERG and been prepared to take advice from more *experts*, and had welcomed a broader range of views into his cabinet we might all be in a much better place today. I hope that answers your question, ‘How else could he have got Brexit done?’ Borders and immigration is a discussion for another day but people’s views are changing towards a more positive view of immigration. |
