| Response from Councillor Guy Lambert: Hi Jo I agree that the leaf fall is causing problems. I have asked for an update from Hounslow Highways today and they report: "We are currently at the height of leaf fall quantities and as we pass this peak ( 90% of leaves are now on the ground ) you will see a progressive improvement in the quality of the affected areas, always best to assess when we have completed the programme but we are very positive about the current outcomes. "We started the programme earlier this year because of the early leaf fall caused by tree drought conditions and have introduced an innovation for our contract in the shape of Trilos ( large leaf suckers / shredders ) which have significantly increased outputs. "Some bullet points of interest ; Started programme 4 weeks early due to tree drought conditions. Programme runs from mid September to February. We have 5 gangs operating with 4 planned routes and 1 reactive. 15 core activity operatives in addition to our normal cleansing resource. 5 additional vehicles. 2 Trilos, leaf shredders. 80,000 green bags saved by using the Trilos. Co-ordination with the deep cleanse activity. Supported by our fleet of 8 sweepers ad hoc. Leafing enquiries down 25%. 120 roads completed. "Guy, as an aside we are currently blitzing Chiswick High Rd for leaf fall, I inspected the work this morning and I estimate it will take them at least 4 more days to complete both sides from Chiswick R/B to the borough boundary." I wouldn’t pretend that this is an ideal answer and of course the issue is at its most challenging in leafy Chiswick, but the pressure is on. I was in Chiswick today on personal business and noticed progress in a number of places. We will keep up the pressure over the coming days and I’m hopeful most problems will be behind us in a few days.
