| Definitely 2 locks of different types. I carry a decent D lock and a cable lock. The cable lock is relatively light but has it's own padlock, so a thief would have to deal with that separately. With the D Lock, you need to work out the best size to get. Ideally the smaller the better, as it's harder to crow it open. They can also use hydraulic bottle jacks to pop them, but they need to be able to get the jack inside. If you go too small though, then you won't actually be able to fit it around the bike and whatever street furniture is available so you need to compromise a bit. If you have two locks, a thief will generally target another bike that doesn't have two locks, so that is a deterrent in itself. Make a note of your frame number. If you do the Bike Register thing then they will take a note of the frame number, as well as put their own marking on it. They will also provide you with a sticker to go on the bike that can't be removed without damaging the paint, so it actually acts as a deterrent. |
