"Stewart, do you really think that if the UK left the EU, there wouldn't be all sorts of trade agreements put in place ? " Okay there are such things as silly questions. Yes, yes there would. That was called a strawman argument as I never said trade would stop, but it would become harder. The eventual aim for trouble free trade is UK transfers to the Euro - you may think this is 'mad' but it's the logical outcome for reasons I won't go into now. "Both the Franco-German elite running the EU, and the UK establishment would want that, as both sides would lose out otherwise. " You'll have to rephrase that. Are you saying that UK would like to be in the driving seat of Europe? If so that's a great idea. We could be if we wanted to. As you point out Angela Merkel is keen on UK's involvement, we'd be good for the EU team and really make EU work for the UK to keep us in the lifestyle we're acoustomed to. To leave is like moving out of a city mansion into a cottage in the country and still expect to be as involved with things as we where before. I agree David could do a lot more to make EU more our kind of place, providing he didn't play silly games as he has been so far. First task would be to stop Osbourne stopping the FTT at a time we could benefit from it. |
