"I'm not sure I want New Labour back, but if things carry on like this, hard to see how it can be avoided" What we need is a full blooded Conservative Government and not the Con/Lib coalition that David Cameroon has to work with. The current opinion polls sadly suggest that a Lab/Lib pact is on the cards NOT New Labour. If you want to get a "feel" for what a Lab/Lib pact would be like you need look no further than our good neighbour France where since the election of a Socialist President the economy has stopped flat-lining and has drifted into a second recession. The Brentford and Isleworth Conservative Association has in fact experienced an appreciable increase in members since 2010. Hard to say whether they are metrosexuals or swivel-eyed loons but most seem pretty normal people to me. Ordinary citizens terrified of another load of old unreconstructed Keynesian Balls (Ed that is). One good argument for joining the Conservatives is that you will get to choose the next Leader of the Party. Being simple souls we use a one member one vote system. This contrasts with the "mechanism" that so cruelly let down Labour Party members last time - when they ended up with the last prize in the raffle. |
