"Was the stop at Hounslow mainly to take on water?" It was certainly planned to take on water at Hounslow, as there was a fire engine (privately owned I think) in the yard by the platform, with a hose running on to the platform. But a stop there is also useful to make sure that there is a clear path as far as Barnes, otherwise it would have caught up the stopping train in front. Planning these steam tours is a tricky business to avoid disrupting the normal timetable. |
