I was being ironic....I dont think you can really go down the path of making some pay for say being overweight, and then not charge those who have a drink problem etc...the point was that it's totally unworkable. Who decides what is a self destructive act and therefore merits you paying towards the health cost..? The point I was making about the Olympic Games, was why go on and penalise those with weight issues, and then have the Olympic Games sponsored by Mc Ddonals...they are providing the bulk of the food (and will advertise all over the place). Most health officials seem to argue for a reduction of adverts for harmful food on TV, to have better food served to our kids , to put large health warnings onto food packages. This would seem a far better way to try and reduce our health costs for weight problems. And of course raising things like corporation tax, to cover the actual costs of these products to the country might help. |
