I normally side with Carrie and life's protesters. They're often right. But even when they get things mixed up, it's more comfortable to be with the anarchists than the suburban choir. However, in the case of these student protests, I'd like to offer my deepest sympathies to Nick Clegg and his Liberals. Can't people understand? Nick's education policies were never meant to see the light of day. In the lead up to May 6th no way did he ever expect to wake up and find himself in government. That's what being a Lib Deb was all about. Swanning about looking deeply caring whilst dreaming up all sorts of exciting ideas that never stood a bat in hell's chance of ever becoming law. I like Nick Clegg. And I reckon “Abolish Student Loans” was a bloody good slogan. Once upon a time. Anyway. Enough of fairy tales. Back in the real world I'd love now to be watching a victorious Gordon Brown spending his way out of this 'global' debt crisis. That would have been fun. With Ed Miliband as his Chancellor and anointed successor. Then we wouldn't need any of these ridiculous protests. Money would be found to prop up our destitute universities. And millions more students would get to take degrees. Everyone would be happy again... Even the pigeons would sing in the trees.. Politics? Huh! |
