Joe – I couldn’t agree more. My point is though that the current government’s policies, promises and profligacy will be used as a stick against the next government (which I presume will be Conservative). Whitehall, Brussels, the World Bank and IMF have all warned that Britain will have to drastically cut the current unsustainable levels of spending – some scenarios signalling the biggest rolling back of the welfare state we have ever seen. This, however, will happen on the next government’s watch, which will allow Labour in opposition to dust-off and re-use the ‘Tory cuts’ and ‘Nasty Party’ mantras. I’ve never voted. I am, however, considering voting Labour in the next election because I believe they should be forced to confront the mess that is largely of their making. This would punish them more than a spell in opposition. |
