"___The documents show that officials from the Tory-controlled council planned a radical overhaul of the council’s housing policy, overturning the right to a home for life" With good reason. Successive studies have shown that people who live in social housing, of working age and with no disabilities are significantly less likely to be in work. Studies have also shown that worklessness spans generations in the same household - with each generation less likely to work than the rest. Social housing isn't meant to be free except for those who through no fault of their own can't afford to house themselves. It's a safety net, but the 3m households being maintained at taxpayer's expense are often occupied by the workshy - the last figure I saw estimated 10% employment rates for those of working age with no obvious reasons for not being in work. |
