Fair enough, my comments were directed more at fields of work like local authority staff etc. where the issues aren't usually matters of life and death. And of course there's pressure on local authority staff, I should know after all, but generally I find that there's a sizeable group of Council staff who only make things worse by not responding to phone calls, email etc, because the emphasis these days is completely on performance figures - how soon the phone is answered, how quickly an email is responded to, how many applications are determined in 8/13 weeks, rather than actually interacting with 'customers' to provide a quality service. This is why, in my opinion and as a broad generalisation (as I have worked with many 'good' local government officers), the quality of local authority staff has deteriorated noticeably in the last 10 years. |
