There are high-pressure jobs in both public and private sector, and I would guess that they average out. The pressure is just different; in the private sector, the focus is on profit, in the public sector its service provision. For example, the pressure on an A&E doctor working 100 hours a week trying to make the right decisions to save lives. Then there's the pressure on a teacher with 30 children in her class, many with special needs or little English. What about the policemen and women, tackling rapists, drug dealers etc? |
