| Japanese Knotweed is just one of a few plants that need specialist removal. We don't need everywhere sprayed with poisonous chemicals "just in case". If the pavements were brushed with a stiff brush and the remains of spring tree blossoms and dead leaves swept away and disposed of regularly pavements and gutters would make a less attractive germination ground for wild flowers and garden escapes but it doesn't happen. It would be better to concentrate on recognising the plants that are problems instead of attempting this mass extermination with chemicals of everything when it is known to have deleterious effects on insects and fish and to put humans particulary pregnant and small ones at risk. We need insects to pollinate crops and don't need any more sick people especially when it can as in other exposures eg tobacco, asbestos and PFAS take years for the cancers to manifest themselves. Just because you can buy something does not mean it is safe! |
