| If pavements were brushed with a hard brush occasionally there would be far less likelihood of any plants being able to take root between the paving stones. Trees flower and leaves drop and what is left on the pavement is where so many wild flowers and garden escapes grow. Once upon a time residents did sweep (and even scrub) their steps and the pavement outside their homes or were responsible for engaging others to do this if they couldn't and there was more pride taken in their environment. Most plants don't cause a problem but some like buddleia do when growing in the wrong place. BTW the Environment Authority consider leaves and other sweepings from pavements to be too contaminated to compost. There are thousands of court cases concerning Glyphosate and whereas some people are older and may not live long enough for any illness caused by it to affect them there are plenty of younger people who should be considered in decisions made. Just as in tobacco and asbestos use. |
