Council homes should never have been sold off with all the receipts going to the Treasury. Those receipts should have been put back into building more Council homes ie replacing those sold. "Affordable homes" are just a joke as they a misleading misnomer and just aren't affordable to the majority of people. They have been just a way of providing income for Tory funders - who constantly find ways of wriggling out of any provision of lower cost genuinely affordable social housing. Many were just put into the private rental market at much higher rental than social housing and allowed to run into disrepair. Despite the Tories' austerity measures the National Debt went up. Running a country doesn't need the same austerity measures to be taken in the same way that a household budget needs may need to cut costs. |
