‘Growth’, even if achievable by the actions of any government, is a questionable concept anyway, bearing in mind our finite resources. It’s doubly questionable without the redistribution of any gains across society. The simplest and quickest way to do that and to sustain spending on public services is to increase taxes at the top end - and that can be done right away. Labour should be proud to be a ‘tax and spend’ government, and not ashamed of making things better for people, in contrast to the years of the opposite austerity we’ve suffered for so long. |
