| Denis, you should have worked out by now that the focus on small boats is a distraction. A very small proportion of the people coming to work in the illegal economy arrive via a dinghy across the channel. A large proportion of those that do come with a genuine asylum claim. When we get round to processing them around 80% are judged to have a legitimate reason to have fled their own country to come here. The amount arriving by other means and staying to work in the black economy completely dwarfs the remaining 20% of small boat arrivals who have no legitimate asylum claim and may well have come here to work illegally. There really is a tacit acceptance of this by Suella Braverman who you have to accept has presided over a massive increase in immigration during her term as Home Secretary. She spends all her time telling you about how she is going to tackle small boats and trying to sell you the totally impractical Ruanda solution while totally ignoring the far larger problem of the growth in the level of employment of illegal immigrants in our economy. |
