“Just as we don't know the name of the person who originally proposed it, we don't know the name of the person who objected to it and got it changed.” I’m happy to take the credit/blame for it, I’ve already posted the reply before, below is what I sent to TFL* and the reply. So we know the person that originally proposed it reads this website, but do they read the forum? If I worked for TFL and had to contact Hounslow Council, I would probably contact someone from the Environment, Highways & Operational Services, but the reply doesn’t say who contacted who about the change. *The feedback form has a character limit so I deleted almost all of the report on streetcare, I’ve added it back in to save you having to search for it, the website is there if you want to see it for yourself. To whom it may concern. It has recently been pointed out that three bus stops in Chiswick have been renamed. The only information I can find is that it was a proposal, as your web site and the bus announcements haven’t been changed can you confirm if the bus stops have been renamed from Police Station to Old Market Place. Someone had added road signs to the area with the name “Old Market Place” but after a recent council meeting, where it was pointed out it was illegal to rename a place without consultation the signs were removed, so there is confusion as to whether the bus stop name changes are official or not. On streetcare.tfl.gov.uk/report/3482031 I found this “Name of 'Chiswick Police Station' bus stop should be changed as police station has been closed Reported via desktop in the Incorrect timetable information category anonymously at 16:53, Monday 25 April 2022 Sent to TfL less than a minute later. TfL ref: FMS3482031. There are 3 bus stops on Chiswick High Rd with name 'Chiswick Police Station' (westbound SS and eastbound HH and II) Chiswick Police station has been closed and sold for development (see http://www.chiswickw4.com/ default.asp?section=info&page=concrime945policestationclosured.htm) The bus stop name 'Chiswick Police Station' is therefore incorrect and misleading. I suggest that the new name for the bus stop should be "Old Market Place". The bus stops are beside this location, this is the name of the location on google maps and other mapping services, and the Market Place will be a destination of interest for bus passengers. Report abuse Get updates Problems nearby UPDATES Thank you for taking the time to report this to us. It is much appreciated. It was investigated by our team and regrettably we are unable to resolve it through Streetcare. In light of this, you may wish to contact our customer services team on 0343 222 1234, or by using this web form https://tfl.gov.uk/ help-and-contact/ contact-us-about-streets-and-other-road-issues , who will be able to help you with this query State changed to: Internal referral Posted by TfL at 08:49, Tuesday 26 April 2022 ” There are three issues with this as a name; 1, Unless referring to an illegal street market that lasted a couple of years before being shut down in the early 1920’s, the area has no history of markets. 2, It is not the location on google maps, it is the southern side of the High Road. 3, The current markets that are being held are on one Sunday a month, there are currently three markets, so it is only a destination for 36 days a year, it’s not a useful name for the other 328 days a year. As mentioned the stops probably do need renaming as the police station is no longer open. Bus stop SS could be either Chiswick Library, or Duke Road. On the other side HH and II, couldn’t use Chiswick Library as stop GG is closer. They could be Old Police Station, not only are they opposite the station that has just closed, on the corner of Windmill Road is the building of the Police Station used before. Bond Street is effectively a small alley, Fishers Lane, could get confused with the current stop in Fishers Lane, which just leaves Windmill Road. Although on the other side Devonshire Road is a shopping destination so would be a better name for it all year round, not just 36 days a year. Thank you for taking the time to read my email, I look forward to hearing from you. Colin Potter. Dear Mr Potter Thank you for your feedback form of 28 October about the possibility of renaming bus stops in Chiswick, for which we recently made name changes. I’m sorry that you’re unhappy with the name changes we implemented. This was carried out in conjunction with your local authority, however we’ve noted why you believe these changes were not appropriate. We’ll consider the feasibility of changing the stop names as you’ve requested. However, if we do decide to go ahead with this we’re not in a position to provide you with a timescale for doing so. This is because renaming these stops will require us to make changes to the headstop names, amend our website and IBus countdowns on the bus shelters and routes which serve the stops. All of this will require financial approval before it can be completed. You’ll be aware from local and national media coverage that due to the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on our passenger demand levels and revenues, we’re being financially supported by the government until further notice. As part of the conditions of their ongoing financial support, we are expected to spend our available resources efficiently. This may lead to us not being able to make these bus stop name changes as soon as you’d like to see. That said, we’re encouraged by the signs of a post-Covid recovery. We have more and more passengers returning to the network, and based on this we aim to be free of the need for financial support in the foreseeable future. Our current funding deal with the government lasts until April 2024 and we’re hopeful that we can return to financial self-sustainability after this date. Once again, thank you for contacting us. If there is anything else we can help you with, please reply to this email. Alternatively, you can call us on 0343 222 1234 and we'll be happy to help you.
