It probably is a waste of money changing the signs again but ... as far as I can tell the change to the bus stop signs happened roughly about the same time as one (or more possibly) Old Market Place 'road signs' appeared on at least one nearby building. These signs certainly gave the impression that the area was officially called "Old Market Place". If you asked a lot of people in Chiswick where the Old Market Place in Chiswick was, I'm not sure how many would point to it being near where the police station was. From about sometime in 2020 (maybe earlier?) various bodies started referring to the area where the Cheese and Flower markets were as "Old Market Place". It's also no secret there is a great deal of antipathy to those who have been involved in getting these markets going from some people who regularly post on this forum. Personally, if everyone knew the area as "Old Market Place" I wouldn't see renaming the Bus Stops as much of an issue, there are bus stops called "Selfridges" on the 94 bus route. Why one bus stop has now been renamed Duke Road rather than Linden Gardens I don't know, sure Duke Road is bigger but the bus stop is closer to Linden Gardens, but then again Windmill Road isn't exactly massive. http://www.chiswickw4.com/default.asp?section=info&page=flowermarket007.htm https://chiswickcalendar.co.uk/chiswick-market-centenary/ |
