To answer the original posters question. There are 20 mile zones and white lines down the middle of most roads and yet drivers don’t obey those either. Some even go so far as to overtake on the wrong side of a traffic island. Personally as a driver, cyclist and walker I obey the rules of the road. I rarely post on here but the generally lumping in of ALL cyclists is really getting on my nerves. For the record I don’t agree with most of the stuff that has been imposed on Chiswick in the “interests” of cyclists and pedestrian safety either BUT I don’t appreciate all the anger being generated against all cyclists in sites such as this one, it’s not justified and it’s dangerous. Most people when asked why they don’t cycle express a concern for their safety - they’re not afraid of other cyclists or pedestrians they’re afraid of car drivers. As a cyclist I absolutely understand that fear, it takes a lot of guts to cycle around London, certainly on any main roads, with drivers rushing to get past you or pulling out in front of you. I would guess that about the same % of cyclists break the law as drivers. Yet you don’t seem to have the same anti driver rhetoric here. We should be fighting these ridiculous changes together not arguing amongst ourselves - Hounslow are dividing and ruling here. |
