It will always be a problem that a bicycle is such a uniquely flexible means of transport that can be ridden by people of all ages and can go anywhere - on the road, over a field, along a footpath, across a crossing, and be carried up steps, taken on a train, and put in the back of a car. Of course there are rules and etiquette that try to restrict that flexibility, but I doubt if they'll ever totally succeed. For any specialist provision to be used by cyclists, it has to be better than the many alternatives they can call upon, and it rarely is. |
