We didn't move around as much.  We knew lots of our neighburs - well.  Many people now have brothers and sisters and children who have emigrated to Australia etc.  Unless you are good with some of the tech - which keeps on changing - you can find yourself struggling.

It is SO important to keep up with those hearing and sight appointments which can become more difficult to get to.  If you miss out on those then you can find yourself dropped off lists - and not necessarily because of your fault - you have to make sure that you have the results - good or bad.  You need to be proactive as shorter lists can suit statistics.

If you know people you won't have to go through all the business of DBS to talk or see them.  Don't put this off or you could find yourself isolated.  I tried very hard to get an elderly friend who we couldn't talk to on the phone because she couldn't understand us because of deafness to get a new hearing test but the request had to come from her and it became impossible to organise in the short visits we made to her town.

Memory is multi-sensory - so it IS very important to make sure that you persevere with hearing aids (Action on Hearing Loss at one time had volunteers who could help new users to get the hang of them) and all those eye tests including the diabetic retinopathy ones.  Diabetes 2 they now say can be reversed.
