Very well said Vanessa - it's all this nonsense about Health and Safety and Data protection.  WHY?   The main problem as I see it is that no one nowadays is prepared to take responsibility for anything at all - they're all terrified of the giant 'Elf & S and Data P, sexism, racism, genderism all isms!
Reckon my age have had the best of things, despite being born before the 2nd WWar and enduring bombs, death of fathers, rationing.  We all just had to roll up our sleeves and get on with it.  Neighbours borrowed cups of sugar and looked out for one another.   Forget mobiles - for years we had to share a party line phone, no telly until the Queen's coronation.   60 kids to a  class, strict discipline, policeman plod was your defender and stood for the LAW, woe betide if you nicked apples!   Doctors and nurses were respected as were teachers, all held in high regard.   Yes there were probably lots of things that were wrong but more things that were right in my opinion.   I have several friends who have given up being volunteers because of all the hoops they have to jump through and the forms they have to fill in.   Madness.
