| You make a relevant point, Janice. Theresa May has made control of immigration central to the Brexit case, but immigration from the EU is tiny in comparison with that from the rest of the world. It was in her power as Home Secretary to control immigration from the rest of the world, but she did nothing about it. In particular she failed to introduce any registration system, such as most European countries have in place, which could have significantly reduced the number of overstayers. She makes aggressive noises for the sake of pandering to the right, but introduces no sensible control measures. Instead she makes landlords and doctors unwilling instruments of enforcement. |
