The point of CS9 is being missed if draconian policing of cyclists is used to force them to take routes that compromise their personal safety. In its current planned configuration the Duke Road junction is a nightmare for both cyclists and motorists. As has been correctly pointed out cars will rat run to avoid it leading to significant traffic displacement to the Glebe Estate. Cyclists will also seek to avoid it and I don't see any harm in them cutting through the one way section of Dukes Avenue to join the High Road if they do so with care. If you post a TfL enforcement officer at this spot 24-7 it may mean that cyclists dismount and walk the ten yards but they won't stop using as a cut through - it would be senseless and dangerous not to. A way round the problem may be to reverse the flow at Dolman Road and Clifton Gardens. This would allow south bound cyclists aiming to travel west on CHR to avoid this junction altogether. A short section of cycle track on Dukes Avenue plus a cycle phase on the lights outside the Church would allow cyclists to cross the High Road safely from north to south and vice versa avoiding Dukes Road. |
