It's a difficult junction and probably already Chiswick's main accident black spot. Importantly it is by the main north south route for cyclists in Chiswick at Fishers Lane. Not many are brave enough to turn right here and most dismount or cycle the wrong way up Dolman Road to cross Chiswick High Road at the lights. As it stands the changes make this junction if anything even worse for cyclists as well as motorists because of the mismatch between the two keep clear boxes which means that when you cross the eastbound lane you will probably be facing stationary traffic before the westbound keep clear box. Also there will be greater conflict with the now doubled amount of traffic coming out of Dukes Road. And just for good measure there is still the bus stop. Overall makes a bad situation worse for everyone. One possible solution would be to legitimise cycling the wrong way down Dolman Road and direct cycle traffic to the signalised junction at the top of Dukes Avenue and have a cycle phase to join the Superhighway. |
