"In practice cyclists will go the wrong way up Dukes Avenue and cross the road at the pedestrian crossing. I don't think anybody should blame them for this as the alternative is the long detour described or braving the very dangerous junction at Duke Road." Blame isn't productive just now. Looking for safer solutions across the piece is. At the moment, when I go to the dentist on Dolman Rd, I have to be alert to cyclists going illegally against the one-way system there. Now it looks as if I might also, in future, have to look out for cyclists going the wrong way against the one-way system at the end of Dukes Avenue. Not good. I agree that the Dukes Avenue/Duke Road junction proposals will make a bad situation significantly worse. Any bright ideas are really welcome. I can also envisage that, particularly at school run times, it's going to be impossible to turn right out of Bourne Place to go south down Duke Road towards the A4. Drivers heading for the Duke Rd/CHR junction can already back up from the CHR junction right up to Glebe St resulting in gridlock. The additional pay and display parking places outside the opticians on the corner will exacerbate this, as there will be nowhere for anyone to go to let people through. The same gridlock happens when there are problems on the A4 and Duke Road is seized upon as a means of escape. So the Glebe St to CHR section of Duke Road can look forward to increased pollution on a permanent basis. |
