There is an orchestrated effort to switch blame for the falling pound away from Brexit, when the link is entirely obvious (look at how the pound reacted to opinion polls and the actual result) and indeed has continuted to fall with the more right wing and anti-EU rhetoric from the Tories.

Most forecasts pre the vote were for a stronger pound, in no small part as the next move interest rates was expected to be upwars. Rates had to be cut to shore up economy in light of the vote.

The vast majority of analysis did not sugges thte pound was undervalued, the simplest and widely references is the Big MAc index (economist I think) which compares cost of producing and selling a big mac across the globe. On this basis pound was not undervalued.

For those arguing that lower pound is wonderful news, the simple fact is that strong economies have strong currencies and the inverse applies. In 1967 the pound was at $2.8 before Wilson's depreciation, the ongoing use of devaluing the curency has done nothing for the long term health of the economy apart from make us poorer. Sterling has lost over 60% of its value against the dollar and German currecny (Deutschmark and now euro).

We should be asking ourselves why our currency is so weak, not pretendings it good news. How can German have a huge trade surplus with a strong currency...?

As Boris said a few years ago, leaving the EU will merely expose the fact that most of our problems are our fault, which is why the right wing press is getting so upset and trying to blame the remainers as their pet project will crash the economy.

Things are going to get very ugly over the next few years.
