They can still fudge it if they want to by saying that they believe Heathrow's pie-in-the sky statements that they will be able to comply by flying quieter, less polluting aircraft. Oh yes. Like VW. But even if they believe Heathrow (and Heathrow might well be able to do it in 50 years or so but not in the timescale when many of us will still be on this planet) there is still the infrastructure cost and who will pay for the little matter of £19 billion or so - don't want my taxes going on this and Heathrow doesn't want to stump up - and night flights that Heathrow won't rule out, which was a Davies stipulation. And Gatwick is in a much, much better economic position that Davies claimed, and is likely to continue to be so. |
