You said "I'm all for renewables, but to be clear the electricity generated is not 'stored' in any form" It's clear that the pumped storage DOES store excess power in the form of potential energy so this statement is wrong. There are four in the UK and Dinorwig alone can supply 1800MW to the grid for 6 hours. It's not new either - working in 1984. There are other forms of pumped storage and other forms of storage that do not need batteries. Plus when we have more electric cars we can charge them at low demand times. Nothing naive about this and a huge amount of money is being invested worldwide in pumped storage with GW of power available. |
