Another emerging method to store power uses liquid air (nitrogen) Excess electricity is used to freeze air and this is stored in large tanks. Then when power is needed, you boil some liquid nitrogen and this drives a turbine to generate electricity. Yes this method needs large tank farms and these won't be build overnight but then fossil fuel refining, storage and generation facilities are hardly small and took many years to be built up. |
