In the 80's our mortgage payments more than doubled.I ended up working my normal day job, I also took on an evening job, but that still wasn't enough so I also took on a weekend driving job where I worked 12 hours on both saturday and sunday. At one point I worked 19 weeks without a day off.I ended up with £6 per week out of which £3 went on petrol for my motorbike. Now that the mortgage is paid off and we could do with higher interest rates to stop our savings disappearing, they've been at near zero for the last 6 years.I am happy to see the interest rates stay low to help those that still have mortgages.I will be happy to sell our place and rent somewhere now that we are retired.Considering our home is now worth about 25 times what we paid for it, it would be rude to complain. |
