'There was a referendum 4 years ago and the public voted overwhelmingly against change (68% vs 32%)' Indeed, but opinions have changed. According to a survey carried out by pollsters ORB for The Independent shortly before the last election, 61% of people now want a change in the voting system. It can't happen too soon as far as I am concerned. I would also say that to extrapolate from, say, the recent election results and make claims about what would have happened under PR doesn't make a lot of sense because under a PR system voting behaviour would be different. |
