Supposing we find a system to elect representatives roughly in-line with their overall support in the country then what? The various groups all go to Westminster and organise themselves into coalitions. This was the vote share: CON 36.9 LAB 30.4 UKIP 12.6 LD 7.9 SNP 4.7 GRN 3.8 It is fairly obvious that a Tory / UKIP agreement of some sort would have been cobbled together. So the country would now be under a more right wing government than we have now. The large number of people who voted for LAB GRN & SNP would be completely without any influence to set policy despite having lots of seats. I think as Sam has alluded to - careful what you wish for. |
